Enrolment Process
In accordance with Section 11 of the Education Act 1989, Howick Intermediate School has an Enrolment Scheme.
The purpose of an enrolment scheme is:
- to avoid overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding at the school;
- to ensure that the selection of applicants for enrolment at the school is carried out in a fair and transparent manner; and
- to enable the Secretary to make the best use of existing networks of State schools.

In-Zone Enrolment
Enrolment forms and information for the 2021 school year will be available from June 2020. We distribute enrolment packs to our local contributing schools in July when our Principal visits the Year 6 students. Our local contributing schools are Botany Downs Primary, Cockle Bay Primary, Howick Primary, Macleans Primary, Mellons Bay Primary, Owairoa Primary and Willowbank Primary.

All in zone applications are guaranteed enrolment at our school, provided you live in our home zone and can provide the required supporting documents.
Supporting Documents for In-Zone Enrolment
Please ensure you provide the following documents with your completed enrolment form:
- Proof of address – this must be your current electricity account. This can be printed from your email if you do not receive one in the post. (If the electricity account is not in a main caregiver's name, you may be able to provide as a substitute: a rates account, official tenancy agreement or a telephone account as well as completing a Statutory Declaration if required)
- Copy of the student’s birth certificate if born in New Zealand or
- If not born in New Zealand, the student’s original passport and a parent's passport. This must be sighted and copied in the school office. You must also have current residency or student visa if applicable.
- The most recent school report.
Enrolment applications cannot be accepted unless all documentation has been supplied with the completed and signed enrolment form. We may also request further documentation to support your application.
Out of Zone Enrolments
Applications for out of zone applications are accepted in June for available places in the following school year.
Applications for 2021 will be open from June 2020. Enrolment forms will be available from the school office or you can download an enrolment form from the website.
If we receive more enrolment applications than we have spaces available, selection will be made according to a ballot process determined by Ministry of Education guidelines.

The order of priority is as follows:
- First priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school. (Not currently applicable to Howick Intermediate)
- Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
- Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
- Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
- Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
- Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.
Supporting Documents for Out of Zone Enrolments
Please ensure you provide the following documents with your completed enrolment form:

Annual Enrolment Procedure
Term 3
- 22 - 28 July - Our Principal, Deputy Principal and School Councillors visit our main contributing schools and enrolment packs are distributed. We welcome applications for in-zone and out of zone students.
- 5 August - Open Day
- 2 September - Out of Zone applications close
- 9 September - Ballot for out of zone spaces is conducted if necessary. Applicants are notified.
Term 4
- 4 November - Orientation visits for our year 6 students enrolled to attend Howick Intermediate. New parent information evening.
